IC Lift Trucks
IC lift trucks are members of classes V and IV. Usually, they are available in gas, diesel or liquid propane units. Primarily, the ICE or internal combustion engine models are utilized outside, since they produce some emissions and are able to operate in severe weather conditions. Propane-powered units, however, can be used indoors as long as proper ventilation is utilized. It is better to know what types of environments you would be working in and what specific requirements you need to use the forklift for, to be able to ensure you select the best model to suit all your requirements.
ICE Benefits
Compared to a similar capacity electric truck, the Internal Combustion engine is offered in a lower initial purchase price varying anywhere from 20% to 40% lower. The ICE units are really easy and fast to refuel. This feature really reduces downtime as there is no need to recharge any batteries, as there is with electric models.
To the similarly equipped electric truck, internal combustion models do provide a higher performance capabilities with far heavier lift capacities compared to electric lift truck models. Over recent years, there have been many advancements regarding emissions technology and this has resulted in lesser total levels of emission. ICE trucks remain popular with load sizes around 8,000 pounds and even a lot higher in particular operations such as lumberyard settings, steel manufacturing facilities and ports.
Internal Combustion Engine Drawbacks
The IC models do suffer from some disadvantages including a higher cost-per-hour to operate as compared to electric trucks, due to the excess needs for fuel. Furthermore, these units normally produce more noise than the electric models because they run louder. Internal Combustion Engine trucks also have fuel-storage requirements to consider as well.
