The rough terrain forklift is a terrific equipment for many outdoor material handling and construction jobs. Typically, rough terrain forklift units are used to lift objects such as lumber, steel beams, concrete, bricks and other heavy objects.
A rough terrain lift truck is different form a standard lift truck in 2 main ways: they use IC engines for their power source and they use thick treaded, inflatable tires to enable operators to drive them over uneven or loose terrain.
These pieces of machines are very strong and rugged vehicles. Many units of rough terrain, heavy duty forklifts are capable of carrying several tons of material at the same time. These kinds of equipment are calibrated carefully in order to provide a counterbalance at the back of the lift. This counterbalance is what stops the load from making the lift tip forward. Certain rough terrain models provide 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel steering. Most rough terrain forklifts make use of a hydraulic system which is responsible for lowering and raising the forks.
Rough terrain forklifts are powered by internal combustion engines. These engines provide more power compared to electric engines, and allow for greater speed and acceleration. There are a range of different IC engines that run on various other types of fuels. For example, among the most common types of fuels for these models include compressed natural gas or CNG, gasoline, LP or liquid propane and diesel. Diesel is the most frequent fuel choice and it is also the cheapest, however, it is not as frequently found as gas. Amongst the main advantages of the IC or internal combustion engines is that they really reduce refueling time.
One more very important factor on the rough terrain forklift is the choice in tire. Rough terrains must have tires that allow for movement across uneven terrain. There are some rough terrain forklifts which allow people to drive these equipment over snow, mud, ice, rocks and wood, virtually transforming them into an unstoppable equipment. Most of these tires are similar to conventional tires found on cars and trucks and are filled with air, however, some models are made out of solid rubber.
A super addition to any construction site is a rough terrain lift truck. These types of equipment allow operators to transport thousands of tons of material over hazardous and rough ground.
